Well, Surrounded By Sharks is out…

How on earth will I celebrate?

And special thanks to everyone who took part in the epic launch day #Sharenado. We may not have reached Sharkcat levels, but we still made some waves online!

Mr. Northrop, thank you so much for writing this book. My 12 year old with autism is obsessed with the ocean and surfing. I was trying to find a novel since he needs extra help with understanding emotion in others. This was perfect! He was so excited he couldn’t stop reading the last 40 pages. You even drew in my 9 year old who sat and listened to his brother to find out Dave’s fate.

    Thanks so much!!

Wow! That’s fantastic! I am thrilled that your son enjoyed the book so much—and even shared it with his brother! Thanks so much for writing in to let me know. This really made my day!

Happy Halloween to all of you!

Hello Mr.Northrop I love your book Surrounded by Sharks, but why do you tell the story in your eyes. What if next time you write one of these books you put it in the main characters eyes. For example let Davey tell us about his experience in the middle of the ocean. How he feels, and what he sees. Please email me and tell me if you get what I mean. Thank you and again I love this book still. Also you are still a great author.

Hi Harrison! Thanks for writing. I’m glad you enjoyed the book so much. I get exactly what you mean. In fact, Surrounded by Sharks is the first book I’ve written in this way (which is called third-person). My first four books were all from the main character’s perspective (first-person). I changed it up with this one because I wanted to get more people involved, so the reader could find out what some of the other characters (including the sharks!) were seeing and feeling and thinking. I enjoy writing both kinds of books, but I thought third-person might be a little bit better fit for this one.

Anyway, thanks again! I hope you’re having a great week!
